CORPORATE OUTING • TEAM BUILDING • PHOTOGRAPHY EXPERIENCE
The Big Photo Challenge
The team outing where coworkers laugh together, surprise each other, and discover that everyone sees the same world differently. In the end, there’s only one winner.
Not your typical team-building event. No role-playing. No mandatory presentations.
It is, however, an active challenge in which teams naturally experience creativity, communication, decision-making, and collaboration.
✔ Smartphone or camera
✔ For groups of 5 or more participants
✔ At any location in the Netherlands
✔ Concludes with a spectacular finale
Head out together with a smartphone or camera, complete creative challenges, and discover how differently your colleagues view the same world. A unique team experience that will be the talk of the town for a long time to come.
What are the benefits of The Big Photo Challenge?
You may recognize one or more of these situations:
Teams are working at cross-purposes instead of working together.
Colleagues know each other's job titles, but not each other's strengths.
Meetings are dominated by the same people.
Creativity and new ideas are lacking.
Employees provide little feedback or rarely speak to one another.
Different departments do not understand each other well enough.
After a team-building day, it was a lot of fun, but in practice, little changes.
The Big Photo Challenge brings these patterns to light without making participants feel like they’ve ended up in a training session or assessment.
What are the benefits of The Big Photo Challenge?
During the challenge, teams naturally discover how they work together, communicate, and make decisions.
Participants will experience, among other things:
better collaboration under time pressure;
greater understanding of different perspectives;
open conversations that don't normally happen on their own;
better communication and justification of decisions;
greater trust among colleagues;
thinking more creatively and learning to see things differently;
a shared experience that people will talk about for a long time to come.
And perhaps most importantly:
Everyone goes through the exact same tasks, but no one sees the same photos.
This shows just how differently people view the same situation. That’s exactly where the most meaningful conversations—and the greatest insights—arise.
TAKE THE BIG PHOTO CHALLENGE
12 photos. 8 challenges. A growing panel of judges. One unforgettable finale.
Most company outings are fun. A week later, almost everyone has already forgotten exactly what happened.
BAKKM Photography’s Big Photo Challenge is a little different. During this unique team-building event, colleagues set out together for an exciting photography challenge full of creativity, competition, and surprising assignments. Everyone starts out as a photographer, but the game changes after each round.
The jury is growing, the number of photographers is shrinking, and eventually only one contestant will remain. Who sees things differently? Who dares to make a choice? And who will take the photo that everyone will remember?
A unique team-building outing for teams in North Holland and throughout the Netherlands
The Great Photo Challenge is a creative form of team building that encourages colleagues to collaborate, communicate, and see things from a different perspective. This photography team challenge is ideal for a company outing, team outing, or as part of a team-building day, and can take place in the Schoorl Dunes, at your own location, or elsewhere in the Netherlands.
What's the schedule for the day?
And then the game changes
After the first assignment, the photos taken are reviewed and evaluated. Which photo tells the strongest story? Which choice is the most surprising? Which photo is the least convincing to the jury in this round?
The photographer who took that last photo is quitting photography. But that person isn't out of The Great Photo Challenge.
On the contrary.
From that moment on, he or she becomes a jury member.
The new judges review their colleagues’ photos, compare the images, and must justify their opinions. They help decide who advances to the next round.
After each assignment, a new judge joins the panel. The panel grows larger, the number of photographers shrinks, and the tension mounts—until, finally, only one photographer remains.
That unique game mechanic—twelve photos, eight challenges, a growing panel of judges, and one final photographer—is at the heart of The Great Photo Challenge.
From Photographer to Judge
Participants usually want to keep taking photos for as long as possible. Yet they soon discover that the role of a judge is just as interesting.
As a jury member, you shouldn’t just decide which photo you personally like best. You look at the story, the execution, the originality, and the photographer’s choices. Then you have to explain your judgment to the rest of the jury. And you help determine the outcome.
Why does this photo work better? What did this photographer see that others didn't? Which entry deserves a spot in the next round?
There isn't always just one right answer. But there are different perspectives. That's often where the most interesting discussions and surprisingly good conversations arise.
One team or multiple teams?
The challenge adapts.
The Big Photo Challenge is designed for a single team of at least 5 participants, but can also be played with multiple teams at the same time.
Are you playing as a single team? Then everyone competes against each other. After each challenge, the panel of judges grows, and the tension builds until, in the end, only one photographer remains.
Are you playing with multiple teams? If so, each team will have its own route, build its own panel of judges, and the teams may encounter each other along the way. This adds extra competition, leads to surprising encounters, and culminates in a spectacular joint finale.
No matter which option you choose, one thing remains the same: everyone starts out as a photographer, but only one participant will emerge as the winner.
In the end, only one photographer remains
While there was a full group of photographers at the start, only one participant remains for the final assignment.
On the other hand, nearly the entire jury of colleagues is now present. Along the way, they have evaluated photos, exchanged arguments, and made decisions. Now they have one more decision to make.
Which photo deserves to win?
The Great Photo Challenge isn't just about the technically best photo. It's about the image that captivates, surprises, and tells a compelling story.
So the final photographer is not only facing the challenge of the assignment, but also the jury’s growing expectations. And once again, they’re all competing for the prize!
All group winners will compete for that coveted grand prize: a photo on the wall!
The Finale and the Big Reveal
The challenge doesn't just end halfway through with a quick announcement of the results. We're turning the finale into a real grand finale.
During a drinks reception, lunch, or dinner afterward, the final footage is reviewed. We look back on the assignments, the most striking choices, and the moments when the game took an unexpected turn.
After that, the jury will announce the winner of The Big Photo Challenge.
The winning photo will be printed in large format (A1) and will be given a permanent spot in the office (a rotating trophy?).
Not as a typical group photo that’s forgotten after a few weeks, but as a tangible reminder of a day when colleagues discovered how differently they view the same environment.
That lasting result is a key part of the concept: the team day ends up on the wall, not forgotten in some corner.
Creative company outings in North Holland and throughout the Netherlands
A company outing doesn't always have to be a rigorous training program. The Big Photo Challenge is, first and foremost, a fun, active, and original experience.
Participants head outside, are given creative assignments, challenge each other, and compete for a spot in the next round. They laugh at failed attempts, cheer for surprisingly good photos, and speculate wildly about who will ultimately be the last one standing.
There are no flip charts, no role-playing games, and no mandatory presentations on team dynamics. The game naturally gets people moving.
That’s exactly why the challenge feels relaxed and accessible, even for colleagues who aren’t usually immediately enthusiastic about a traditional workshop.
Why Everyone Participates So Enthusiastically
The game includes various elements that are also important in the workplace.
Making Choices with Limited Resources
With only twelve photos, participants don’t have unlimited chances to try. Every click counts. That requires focus, setting priorities, and having the courage to make a decision in time.
Giving and Justifying Feedback
Judges must make a decision and cannot simply say, “I just think this one is more beautiful.” They learn to analyze the artwork and clearly explain their judgment.
Recognizing Different Perspectives
Colleagues are given the same assignment but produce different results. This shows that different perspectives do not automatically mean that someone is wrong.
Dealing with a Changing Role
Participants start out as photographers and later become judges. Their role changes, but their influence on the final result remains.
Collaborating Without It Feeling Like Training
The assignments, evaluations, and meetings naturally lead to consultation, discussion, humor, and connection.
These elements—scarcity, feedback, responsibility, and connection—have been deliberately incorporated into the concept.
Possible locations
The Schoorl Dunes provide a particularly well-suited setting for The Great Photo Challenge. Forests, dunes, sand, light, lines, and textures offer a wide variety of photographic opportunities.
Other locations are also possible. A city, historic district, industrial area, or the immediate vicinity of your own company can offer a completely different atmosphere and a different set of assignments.
The location is therefore not merely used as a backdrop, but is an active part of the game.
First, learn to see like a photographer
Before the challenge begins, participants will receive a short masterclass on photography and storytelling from BAKKM Photography.
This isn't about complicated techniques, but rather practical principles that anyone can apply right away. Think of composition, lighting, perspective, framing, and telling a story with a single image.
Among other things, participants will learn:
how to create a sense of calm and direction in a photo;
how light can enhance an image;
why leaving things out is sometimes more powerful than adding them;
how to direct the viewer's attention;
How to take surprising photos of everyday subjects.
Then the real work begins. From that point on, participants have to look around, make their own choices, and take photos on their own.

Client Reviews
"We were looking for a unique company outing that would really get people talking to one another. The Big Photo Challenge exceeded our expectations. Colleagues from different departments had to work together, make decisions, and persuade one another. The great thing was that photography actually turned out to be just a means to an end. The conversations that arose about perspective, communication, and collaboration were far more valuable than we had anticipated. People were still talking about it at the office weeks later."
Diana Wayboer | HR Manager at Floriade Garden Center"Normally, during a team outing, you see everyone sticking with their own coworkers. Here, the exact opposite happened. Everyone actively participated and got really into it without it feeling forced. The competitive element, with the growing panel of judges, created a healthy sense of excitement and a lot of humor. It’s a surprising concept that naturally brings out teamwork."
Mike Zwart, Team Lead | OPS International"The Big Photo Challenge is a bit different. Because colleagues evaluate photos together and have to justify their choices, it sparks conversations you wouldn’t normally have. The concept is cleverly designed and combines fun with real insights. I highly recommend it to organizations looking for something original."
